For corporate clients, I can design a “lunch bunch” series, where I address your employees during their lunch time. I have a dream to work with school districts to develop community service programs in middle and high schools, where children are given the direct experience of values in action. Students would work in multiple volunteer positions throughout the year. At the same time, they would meet with the same group of students once a week, led by a trained facilitator who guides the children into an in-depth experience of learning and exploring their own feelings and responses. For example, one month might be a focus on the homeless. The class would spend work several hours in a shelter, working side-by-side. In between the actual site visits, students would gather to learn more about the plight of homelessness and share their perceptions, prejudices and experiences within the safe constructs of their ongoing class. The facilitator would receive training in group dynamics and be provided with activities to foster community within the class itself. If we want kids to become good citizens, we have to provide them with powerful experiences that will foster those qualities inside of them, organically. This is my dream of dreams, to create such a program at the national level. Do you share this dream for our world and our children?
